Today, we were riding another 100+ miles all the way to the ND/MN border. As luck would have it, we finally had a tailwind for part of today's ride toward Fargo! The first three hours of riding were touch and go with what looked like imminent rain. A massive wall cloud behind us to the west stretched for well over 35 miles across the horizon. It appeared to be moving northeast, so there was a chance that it might blow north of us. Despite its original course, the front began moving swiftly to the east. Around the Valley City area, the wall cloud passed by me, choking out the daylight of this Monday morning. Thinking that a heavy rain was in short order, I pedaled hard (usually exceeding 27mph) and exited the interstate and took shelter beneath an overpass. Within 10 minutes the sun was shining again and no rain had fallen, so I resumed riding. The remaining 60 miles or so were fast and relatively easy due to the flat roadway and a steady tailwind. Once in Fargo, I stopped at a bike shop that had been recommended by another rider earlier in the trip. The Great Northern Bicycle Company is located in what was formally a railroad depot in downtown Fargo. The shop itself retained the exterior of the railroad depot, but the interior was a modern, spacious, and sleek bike shop. It was definitely worth visiting! Afterwards, Garrett and I grabbed a small bite to eat in downtown Fargo before heading across the river and into Moorhead, MN. Due to a poor weather forecast, we chose to spend the night at an inexpensive hotel. Packing up wet gear in a wet campground the following morning would not be an ideal way to start a day of riding.
