7.7.17. Lewistown to Roundup (75 miles)

This morning I woke up feeling somewhat better than the morning before, but I was still really congested. Daytime cold medicine seemed to do the trick yesterday, and the medicine didn't impact riding, so I took the recommend dose. Today was shaping up to be a warm day, so we headed out around 6:40am to beat the afternoon heat. What's more is that this day also dealt us 3000+ feet of climbing in 75 miles. The first 9 miles were a slow chug uphill against a slight crosswind. Once at the climbing ceased, we experienced something just short of miraculous: we had a gradual descent with a strong tailwind! This tailwind made sustaining an average speed of 24mph easy. With the wind at our backs, we flew east to Grass Range, the only stop with facilities that we would encounter before our destination. After a 45 minute rest at Grass Range, we began to head south toward Roundup. Over the course of our stop, the wind direction had shifted and was once again at our backs! I've never experienced anything so favorable like this on a ride before. It made this the easiest 75 miles that I've ever ridden on a bike. We arrived in Roundup around 1:30pm, and opted to stay at a cheap motel, as there was no designated campground in town. We had a late lunch and walked around town afterwards for an hour or so. From here, we relaxed in the air conditioning of our motel room for a few hours before dinner. Resting up after the last few days of riding was necessary! For dinner, we walked to a cafe that was well reviewed on Google, and we found the food to be satisfying. After dinner, we returned to the motel. Once again, high temperatures on the upcoming day prompted an early start.
