This was by far the earliest we had woken up for riding: 4:00am! After experiencing traffic on US-12 yesterday between Lewiston and Kamiah, we wanted to ensure that we had a head start on traffic. Much to our surprise, traffic was sparse not just in the wee hours of the morning but also into the late morning and afternoon. Best of all: no blasted logging trucks. We had covered about 45 miles when we stopped for lunch at a pullout area for slow moving traffic. While having lunch, two other cyclists were riding in the opposite direction when they stopped to chat. They shared that Lochsa Lodge offered free camping and $5 showers to cyclists. Heading a few more miles than originally planned for that deal was a no brainer. After a long, slow, and gradual climb we arrived at Lochsa Lodge shortly after 3pm. We claimed a spot to camp and quickly moved on to the restaurant on the premesis. After dinner, we lounged in the bar area enjoying beers and the air conditioning after a long day of riding. After setting up camp and showering, we were surprised to see the three guys we had met yesterday rolling down the road to the lodge. They had heard of the lodge as well and didn't want to turn it down. Once again, Garrett and I turned in early in hopes of arriving in Missoula by early afternoon the following day.
