6.28.17. Lyons Ferry Campground to Lewiston (75 miles)

Following a day of rest, we began our ride that would take us out of Washington and into Idaho. Initially, we fought an occasional cross wind or headwind. However, once we turned onto US-12, the wind was usually at our backs, and the surface was newly paved. This made riding considerably easier. We stopped in Pomerade, which apparently has the largest FFA chapter in the state of Washington. From here, we left town and shortly after began the climb up to Alpowa summit. The climb was close to two miles in length, but the gradual ascent and wide shoulder allowed for enjoyment. After stopping at the blustery Alpowa summit, we began a 7 mile descent into the Snake River valley. Upon arrival in Clarkston (across the river from Lewiston), we met with a friend of a previous connection that we had made in Leavenworth. This friend had arranged for us to stay at his son's home. We had full confidence that these were genuinely hospitable folks that had no ill intentions. Prior to going to our host's home, we stopped at a local bike shop in downtown Lewiston. The store owner gave us valuable advice about our route ahead. He was even kind enough to allow us to keep our bikes at the store while we ate a late lunch treo blocks away. Our host picked us and our bikes up at the bike store. While our stay was only one night, our accommodations were spectacular, and our host was most hospitable. He often offered to do too much! The following day, we would ride on to Kooskia, ID
